Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland Visit May 2023
On Saturday and Sunday 13th & 14th May The Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland visited the Gardner Memorial and Farnell Churches as part of their 2023 Spring Study Tour around buildings of significance in Angus or Forfarshire.
About 40 members of the AHSoS are seen here in Brechin’s Gardner Memorial Church described by Simon Green, the tour leader, as the most elaborate of Sir John James Burnet’s series of low friendly churches. A wonderful mixture of Baronial, Romanesque, Scots Late Gothic and Arts and Crafts with a magnificent roof and sculptural decoration by William Vickers. The wonderfully light interior is a celebration of ‘Presbyterian Ecclesiology’.
